What Murrells Inlet does to a window
Murrells Inlet and Pawleys Island have more glass facing salt water than anywhere else on our Grand Strand routes. The oceanfront homes on Pawleys, Litchfield Beach and DeBordieu take spray straight off the Atlantic on every east wind and dry a white film within a week, and a nor'easter carries the salt across to the creek side. The homes along the Murrells Inlet marsh and Pawleys Creek take a damp haze every morning instead, and the boat traffic on the inlet keeps an exhaust film on anything facing the water.
Inland it is live oaks. Wachesaw Plantation, Litchfield Plantation, Pawleys Plantation and the older lots along Kings River Road sit under some of the oldest oaks in the state, and from late February into April the pollen covers every pane, porch screen and sill, followed by tannin and Spanish moss drip after every rain for the rest of the year. The deep shade keeps north-facing glass damp enough for mildew in the corners, the lagoons behind most lots in Prince Creek and Heritage keep the back glass damp, and the golf-course irrigation leaves a hard mineral line along the lower panes.
Oceanfront and creek-front homes on Pawleys, Litchfield Beach, DeBordieu and along the inlet do best on an every-two-months plan, and oceanfront glass often wants monthly in the windy months. Homes under the oaks in Prince Creek, Wachesaw, Litchfield Plantation and Pawleys Plantation do well quarterly, with the inside glass done once a year either way. We keep vendor passes current at the gated plantations and send a text the morning of each visit.
